Under Eye Treatments One of the number one reasons consumers use cosmetics, according to a recent survey by Clinique, is to help improve the appearance of their eyes including their under eye skin. All totaled, consumers spend close to a billion dollars a year on under eye products. Unfortunately, many of these products are simply over-priced moisturizers and will do little or nothing to improve dark circles under the eyes, reduce puffy eyes, or diminish fine lines and wrinkles. This is very troubling to many consumers as these serums can easily cost over a hundred dollars. The best under eye treatments are those that have been clinically tested and proven to work. Independent clinical tests are extremely expensive and are only performed on higher end products. As a result, products that have been clinically tested are generally more expensive than their competitors. However, independent clinical tests are the only verifiable way to determine if a product is truly effective or not. What inevitably happens to some well intending under eye products is that they spend their budget on creating a well-packaged, well-advertised product, and unfortunately do not leave enough money in their budget to have their product tested. This is unfortunate as modern day consumers are often able to see past a well designed label and determine if the ingredients inside are really worth their money. When our staff set out to review under eye treatments, they determined that they would not be swayed by advertising or design efforts and would instead focus on formulas and customer feedback. What they found was that the most expensive and well-known brands were not the best and that those products that were tested and proven to be effective were. Simple Tips for Improving the Appearance of Your Under Eyes The most important thing one can do to improve the appearance of their under eyes is to address their overall health. There is a direct and tangible correlation between one’s health and the development of dark under eye circles, puffy eyes, fine lines, and wrinkles. Fortunately, there are many ways to improve one’s health including eating a more balanced diet, exercising more frequently, and sleeping 7-8 hours a night. While you are surely aware that these changes can improve your health, getting there is another story. On a whole, we work more, sleep less, eat poorly, and do not exercise enough. While we can all surely improve these areas in our lives, the emotional and time demands of one’s career, family, and social life are often too much too handle. However, little positive health changes go a long way and are essential to help improve one’s physical appearance, specifically the under eyes. Additionally, there are other ways to improve one’s health such as decreasing unhealthy activities. For example, smoking is not only bad for one’s health, but it also deteriorates the under eye skin and can cause premature aging. Another example is to decrease the amount and frequency of alcohol you consume. The excessive consumption of alcohol can lead to a variety of health problems and can results in the premature onset of dark under eyes. After you have improved your health, the appearance of your under eyes should improve.
